Mobius Arch in black & white

This is known as the "Mobius Arch" in the Alabama Hills, just outside of Lone Pine, California. I took a number of shots of different sections of it, and this one stood out to me the most.

The original shot was in color, and I used the Channel Mixer in Photoshop to make the blue sky very dark, and make the red tones in the rock very light.

I'm not quite sure what I think of this composition, and whether or not it works. What do you think?
